the
beginning
Before
becoming the team plane for the Dodgers, N1R saw
passenger service for one of the largest U.S.
carriers in the country. On 13th December
1960 American Airlines (A.A.) took delivery of
N7536A, msn 18022 and christened the aircraft "Flagship
Georgia". The aircraft would fly
for A.A. for eleven years. On 26th January 1971
the L.A. Dodgers took delivery and changed the
tail number to N1R and christened the plane "Kay
O'II" . From this time on N1R
would serve the team for eleven years before
retiring in 1982. |

The
aircraft was sold to the military for spares
along with approximately 186 others to support the KC-135E tanker
program. After being picked over for many of its
parts, N1R would later be placed on the DRMO list
where it would later be sold in a sealed bid
with many others. In 2001, N1R was just being
scrapped when Doug Scroggins with the assistance of Terry Shelton of ARM, Tucson
stepped in and saved the cockpit from being
scrapped. Doug Scroggins purchased it and had it
shipped to Mojave where it is today. Located in
Mojave, California, USA, the nose section, N1R
will be moved from its long term storage to a
hangar were the fabrication and sheet metal work
will begin. |
